You want a piece o' me? Huh, Luis? Do ya?
Well such a huge heap of disgust has been tipped onto the bugsy gaucho's bonce
that you could be forgiven for thinking he was being investigated by Operation
Yewtree. (The news that Rolf Harris may be in trouble too is almost too much to
bear - the phrase 'can you tell what it is yet?' will never sound the same
again.
But how much do we need to tolerate on a football pitch? Nothing escapes a Sky
cameraman's eyes.
Let's not pretend that footy used to have a noble heart. When I was growing up
the true villains of our beautiful game were celebrated, elevated to the level
of cult heroes: Bite Yer Legs Hunter, Chopper Harris - someone once called us
Roughhouse Robson and I didn't mind a bit (although in retrospect it sounds a
bit camp). On the flipside there was the exploitative attacker Francis Lee, a
man who tumbled like Nadia Comaneci every time a set of metal studs got within a
foot of his shinpad-less legs.
The fact that today's bad boys live in gated mansions and spend the tail-ends of
their careers buying their seventeenth sports cars and getting themselves
groomed for the role of pundit couch scatter cushions only makes them even more
contemptible.
Luis Suarez, though, eh? In the rampant dash towards notoriety Suarez is making
John Terry look like a choirboy. A cheat, a racist and now, a devourer of human
flesh. It's not as if that set of choppers isn't already rather dangerous-looking. You could certainly open your bottles of beer on his gob.
But biting someone. Actually chomping. Isn't there something in the DAngerous Dogs Act that means we're allowed to put him down for the sake of society?
I must confess the first time I came across him was his clenched fist as Asamoah
Gyan missed that last minute penalty in the World Cup after he'd punched a shot
off the line. Lots of people were calling him ungentlemanly scum at that point.
Me, I thought he did what just about every other footballer in the world would
have done. Got himself sent off to save the team. The penalty was missed. He was
vindicated. Of course he was pleased.
Now he's been at Liverpool a while we have been really made more aware of the
man's qualities. It turns out he really is a quintessential piece of pond life,
save for the fact that his feet do quite wonderful things to a football. The
pass for Sturridge's equaliser wasn't football, it was Art. If he were an
employee of the Government he'd have had his funding removed long ago.
Suarez's handball to gift-wrap Chelsea's second was the work of a dopey and
inveterate cheat whose instinct is as much for the deceitful as the brilliant.
As for his fit of the munchies... Well, first of all it's worth taking time out
to praise the remarkable restraint of Branislav Ivanovic. The man deserves a
fecking sainthood. Most mortal men would have yanked a corner-flag out of the
ground and used the little nibbler as a hog-roast.
Suarez's apology - and that of his club - has been rapid and cringeworthy. After all, he's
bitten people before.
And the big question is not 'Why is Suarez such a cunt?' We need highly-trained psychologists and
animal-trainers to get to the bottom of that. The real question is: 'why would
Liverpool put up with such a twat?'
Liverpool FC is not the most rational place in the world. There's reason for a
sense of victimhood. The maltreatment of the memories and families of the 96
should never be forgotten. But even the exaltation of Benitez is less difficult
to fathom than those that seek to excuse the Montevideo Man-Eater. At
least his team-mates will be excused the indignity of wearing pathetic t-shirts. I expect they've been printed up already... A picture of Luis, donkey teeth splayed in a wide grin of triumph and a little legend beneath it saying; 'The Tooth Hurts! But Luis Is Innocent! '
But Suarez is not going anywhere. Ian Ayre has said that already. We just need
to teach him how to play nicely, he says (this habitual faller, faker and
foot-leaver-inner).
Some folk say that the great trough of dosh that the Premier League brings with
it hasn't corrupted the honest John of British football. But the retention of Suarez by Liverpool is down to 2 distinct factors: 1. He's very good at football; and 2. If they got rid of him now he'd only get bought up for less money than he's worth by some club with the morality of a mosquito.
So, ho hum, say Liverpool, we're lumbered with him.
But there comes a time when even the most talented and costly individual needs to be jettisoned, not cosseted. Surely. I assume that the FA will give him a Cantona-like eight months to cool his heels and, who knows, file down his canines.
In the menatime, never mind limp-wristed, ineffective, meaningless, fines, Liverpool Football Club. Show some courage, Koppites. Get shot of the great embarrassment. And breathe the pure clean air of righteousness. If you do, you won't be walking alone.
First first im first hahahhahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahah!!!!
ReplyDeleteTalking bollocks Robbo. These characters with their crazy antics are great for the game. Do we want a load of boring Michael Owens?? Nooooooo.... munch munch munch.
ReplyDeletegood point that. look at snooker, cleansed beyond watchability. we need a pantomime villain and while theyre good enough to compensate for the collateral brand damage they get excused. joey barton just wasnt good enough in the end. compared with his sequence of atrocities a little playful nibble seems insignificant, he didnt exacly eat his brain with fava beans and a nice chianti. but theres something sneaky and insanitary about spitting and biting and we dont like it do we, el hadj jouf springs to mind. punch someone (prefereably john terry) in the face, fine thats manly, off you go, three match ban - compared with rugby footballers are like choir boys. except that celebration by andreas moller v enland in euro whatever now that was fucking unforgiveable.
Deleteandreas moller .. ha! ... that brings back memory
Deletei think liverpools main concern is not how do we get rid of him but how do we keep him. man u, city, chelsea are in a different league with spurs and arsenal not far behind and liverpool nowhere, even with suarez
ReplyDeleteCongrats on Port Vale going up - can't see a 28 goal swing at the weekend happening somehow
DeleteNearly first, as usualy.
ReplyDeleteUsual, even.
ReplyDeleteAlmost Chelsea-like, I suppose.
Quite the literary exploits, Robbo. Though Suarez isn't from Montevideo, so perhaps he's the Salto Snacker?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Man U.
ReplyDeleteChampions RVP an excellent signing.
ReplyDeleteAgreed brilliant signing. Brilliant hat-trick as well.
DeleteWhy the surprise?
ReplyDeleteHe's always been like this.
Maybe it's my fault, I should have warned you all..............
Oh.
L'pool knew what they were getting, he'd already had a chunk out of a PSV lad when he was at Ajax, ofcourse they're not going to sell him, but to come out and pretend now that he's damaged goods and worth less is laughable, he was a twat before he came and he still is one, only more people know about it now.
Suarez is a brilliant footballer but lets himself down by being a dirty cheating twat.
DeleteAbsolutely right - the only reason he was available for Liverpool to sign in the first place was that 8 match ban for biting. If LFC wanted to take the moral high ground they should hasve got rid of him when he got banned for racial abuse.
DeleteA fine is too little, far too late
Great stuff Robbo. They should dump the cunt now. There WILL be a next time and his team mates must be getting fuckin' sick of the sideshow even if the ownership aren't ready to pull the plug. They might just let the dust settle, hope for a quiet period and flog him. He probably deserves a flogging either way.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to ManU. Relegation beckons but we'll not get into that now.
with clenched teeth congrats Manu
ReplyDeleteand RVP, 2nd goal sublime
Yet offside
DeleteLiverpool should work a deal to swap Suarez for Balotelli this summer. Mario surely has to be tired of being Berlusconi's 'little boy' by now.
ReplyDeleteGood blog, Roughhouse. I imagine the 'we won't be able to sell him for much' argument hasn't even entered Liverpool's thoughts. He's their best player, simple as that, and so they want to keep him no matter what he does. They won't be able to attract anyone of similar quality to replace him without European footie next season.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend has pretty much been the Premier League season in a microcosm - United didn't even play over the weekend, and their main competitors for the league fucked up their matches, handing the title to United. And then when Utd did play, RVP's goals won them the match.
british and hypocrisy. if u can tolerate people who sleeps with their mates and brothers girlfriends why cant u tolerate suarez? didnt defoe also bite mascherano
ReplyDeleteare you saying that players who sleep with their mates and brothers girlfriends should get fined or match bans? the defoe thing however is a good point
DeleteDefoe should have got banned but regardless of Giggs and Terry's marital issues they haven't broken any rules of the game by doing so.
DeleteBiting an opponent is disgusting and assault and he should get the same ban Cantona did when he drop kicked that little toe rag at Palace all those years ago
Was everyone saying sell Cantona back then....
ReplyDeleteYes actually a lot of fans of other clubs wanted him banned for life, some United fans wanted him sold but a lot of fans from several clubs thought Matthew Simmons got what he deserved for running down to the front of the stand and calling Cantona's mum a french whore.
DeleteSuarez bit an opponent on the arm during a game, unprovoked and given he has done it before, has bene done from racist abuse, diving and on Sunday stupidly handled the ball to hand Chelsea the lead surely it is time LFC jsut got rid of him
Just one more cuntish act from a culture of intrinsic cuntishness and no-one's got the balls to do something serious about said culture, the impotent cunts.
ReplyDeleteOh well, congrats to United are in order I suppose. They've just quietly got on with steamrolling all comers while their rivals looked up 101 Ways To Shoot Themselves In The Foot and then subsequently acted upon most of them over the season.
Question is will Spurs read the same book again overt the next 4 games
DeleteWigan, Chelsea and Stoke won't be easy trips
Who knows Adam .... it was a pleasant surprise to see them wake up and steal 3 points from City the other day.
DeleteBale's on fire, we've not got many injuries and it looks like Defoe might have found his shooting boots again.
At any rate, I feel much more comfortable chasing than being chased.
Until the FA, UEFA & FIFA grow some and come down hard on diving, racism and players surrounding the ref over every decision, the game will continue in the same way
ReplyDeleteSuarez's actions -- because they weren't spotted during the game -- might cost Chelsea Champions League football next year. You could argue that he should have seen red twice, but instead he goes on to score the equalizer, which leaves Chelsea only a point ahead of Spurs, with a much more difficult run-in (although now that United has already won the league, they may not be bothered when Chelsea show up). It wouldn't surprise me in the least, just as it's not at all surprising that LFC merely fined him. What a joke!
ReplyDeleteGiven they want Chelsea's points record in a season they will be trying to win every game between now and the end of the season
DeleteI will be desperately hoping for a draw on Sunday, for you NOT to outdo our points and for Arsenal drop a couple of points.
DeleteA few Hail (Bloody) Marys to footie God might help
We'll win Sunday I think but you have a trip to OLd Trafford to come so all you need to do is park the bus to stop it
DeleteThis is a dodgy one: Balotelli could/should have been sent off last year for standing on Scotty Parket - and then went on to score the winning goal. Not sure if those point would have got Spurs into the Champions league, but City would not have won the league......
DeleteMore mince pies at half time might solve the problem?
ReplyDeleteI copped grief for refusing to renew my local liverpool supporters membership on the grounds that suarez was a racist. Interestingly, it is apparently a sign of disloyalty to hope that the club and sport you love would somehow share values that most of society and also the law agree with - but no - apparently a true fan is one who loves the money and winning more than the game. :-(
Congrats to Man U on winning the league - 13 league titles (I think) for Fergie in 26 years as manager, a feat in itself these days, is pretty impressive I have to say.
ReplyDeleteJust heard there's been an offer for Suarez from the German team, Borussia Munchonacentreback
Nice one.
DeleteWhen you live on a farm
ReplyDeleteAnd you bite someone's arm
That's a Suarez
When your forehead is wide
And your teeth are offside
That's a Suarez
When you dive for a pen
Over and over again
That's a Suarez
When your gums are so tight
Like you've strained for a shite
That's a Suarez
Is your surname Space?
Deletethat's a catchy little ditty there Phil.
DeleteRight to praise Ivanovic for his relatively muted reaction, though I hear Suarez called him tasteless.
ReplyDeleteHeh, he should of a-salt-ed him
DeleteAnd you thought Suarez was nuts...
ReplyDeletehttp://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/news/20130422/referee-testicles-squeezed.ap/?sct=sc_t2_a11
Well, at least he didnt bite them.
DeleteCalm down everyone. LFC will definitely be selling him in the summer. Right now if they say "we want rid of this guy, anyone interested ?", they are never going to get what they would have got for the league's top scorer had he not decided to snack on Branislav's arm. Seeing as him and Pep share the same agent (not in a snacking sort of way), he'll probably be off to Bayern for 40 mil or so.
ReplyDeleteBR will use the money for 16 more midfielders, using the argument that Borini is fit again, so we dont really need any more strikers.
Well done to them damn Mancs. And to people saying it was a one man effort, remember said man was the league's leading scorer last year too but Arsenal didnt win the league or even come close. One man can never win you a league.
ReplyDeleteUnless it's Cantona who seemed to be a one-man title winning machine - winning it every full season between 1991-1997 with Marseille, Leeds and Man Utd
DeleteNot sure any other player will win 4 on the bounce like that never mind 6 out of 7 - more remarkable as it was with 3 different clubs in consecutive seasons
Ibrahimovic?
DeleteHappy St Georges to all you in Eng-er-land
ReplyDeleteWithout meaning to be cruel by making fun of people's physical attributes or lack of them Suarez has an uncanny resemblance to the South American Nutria/Coypu which is a large rodent creature about the size of a dog. Granted he has less hair and you don't see his hairless tail, thank god, but his face and especially teeth give it away. Plus they spend all day chomping on anything they can get their teeth into.
ReplyDeleteAnd just to piss off all the usual scribes to this blog...MUFC forever!
Isn't the nutria considered a 'invasive' species in some parts?
DeleteMy Uncle Frank Chorley Forever!
Deletethere's only one Frankie Chorley.
In Kenya it's the neuter-ya.
DeleteAH, I'm afraid I have to disagree, Liverpool have no intention whatsoever in getting rid of, what is by a country mile, their best player.
ReplyDeleteIn todays world of YouTube and 24hr a day media coverage on football from everywhere you've heard of and some places you haven't, there is no excuse for not knowing a players reputation when purchasing said player. Admitedly Holland is not one of the biggest leagues on the planet, but this guy played for Ajax and they are a worldwide known brand. He already had a dubious reputation as an irratating individual, not the worst thing in the world, from his previous club, FC Groningen, but also as a bit of a cheat, A reputation that was more then compounded at Ajax, where he also bit a guy. Liverpool bought him knowing all this, why would they know suddenly feel the need to get rid of him?
H2, I'm not saying they are either definitely going to sell him or they are definitely not going to sell him. Who the fuck knows. I'm just saying that their saying that 'he still has a future at the club' means nothing. They could well have been waiting to cash in on him for a while, and now have an excuse and could well be setting the scene to get a good price.
DeleteAs for why they bought him knowing he was a cheat ? Well, because he was a good investment, and everyone cheats (not my thoughts btw, just what I think LFC were thinking). I would think if they had known he was also a racist and cannibal, the sale would not have happened.
be careful or you'll get dog shit in your next Dutch letter!
DeleteAH he bit a PSV player and got a 7 match ban in the Ere Divisie.
ReplyDeleteSurely they must have known!?
Did Cantona ever kung fu kick a specator again ?
DeleteYup, you warned us good and well when Liverpool and Spurs were umming and arring over weather to buy him a couple of years ago.
DeleteThank fuck we dodged a bullet there ...
Dodgy BL story
ReplyDeleteGotze signs for FCB a bit out of the blue, with shit timing as BVB play Real tomorrow
The cynic in me suggests it diverts attention away from FCB Godfather Hoeness big tax evasion story
Ivanovic has declined to be interviewed by the press and the FA. His agent has declared it a case of once bitten twice shy.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who pays "£40m" for Rat Boy needs their heads examining. Liverpool won't sell as without him they'd be lucky to finish in the top half regardless of how many makeweights Ted Rogers buys with the loot.
ReplyDeletethe one good thing to come of this is that Pool will be without the annoying twat for the derby. Bring it on! :)
Word is that Ian Ayre has accepted there is no chance of selling Suarez and he will offer him an extended contract at lower wages. By all acoounts, Suarez will bite his hand off.
ReplyDeleteThat's a meaty story there Trotts.
DeleteDoesn´t he have to chew over the offer?
Deletewhatever just happened in that game
ReplyDeleteRe. adam's comment a bit earlier, I think you'll find Zlatan Ibrahimovic won 8 consecutive league titles with 5 different clubs in 3 countries (although Juventus' 2 titles while he was there were later revoked).
ReplyDeletereally
DeleteThat is good going as well. I didn't realise he had so many to his name though

I suppose i should also say well done m.....
well done man .....
well done ma...no i cant do it

ReplyDeleteTo celebrate winning the league Manchester Un**ed have brought out the Robin Van Persie tea tray.
ReplyDeleteApparently it's big enough to carry 10 mugs.
Bit Harsh Jacks especially as the Emirates tea tray holds 60,000 mugs
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit harsh Adam.
DeleteBut fair.
(Can't let all the congratulations go without the odd barb)
60,000 mugs but no cups!

ReplyDeleteMorrissey. What a twat.
ReplyDeleteagreed
Delete10 matches for Luis the Cannibal
ReplyDeletePlenty of time for him to figure out which wine he wants with his next defender
Early hols for Suarez.
ReplyDeleteSo last season he missed 8 matches for Racism, he'll miss 5 games of this season and the first five of the next for this .....will Liverpool ever get a full season's work out of him?
ReplyDeleteStill much more than we ever got out of Nando.
Delete10 match ban for Suarez..can't say I disagree with that too much. Some folks on the Liverpool board complaining about how career ending tackles get just 3 games, and some others talking about how Cantona got 8 months, but looking at it in isolation, I think 10 matches is justifiable without being over the top.
ReplyDeleteWonder if Ivanovic misses next match with a nibbling injury.
ReplyDeleteor rabies.
Deletei think suarez was a beaver in a former life and he mistook ivanovich for a tree.
ReplyDeleteit would also explain why hes such a cunt in this one
Liverpool striker Luis Suárez is considering his future in English football after being left distraught by a 10-game suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.Suárez is deeply upset at the severity of the ban issued by an independent regulatory commission on behalf of the Football Association.
ReplyDeletea) Fuck off then
b) you wot a shok after all you only got 8 for the same thing in Clogland and only 8 for the evra farce
C) Stop being a cunt then. Good riddance if he does decide to fuck off. He brings all this shit upon himself through his own actions.
DeleteWhoa... 4-0 Bayern and 4-1 Dortmund. Somehow don't feel the latter is over yet, but still impressive. Dortmund better win this year because they'll lose Lewandowski and Gotze.
ReplyDeleteHope it is and BVB win(think they will at least score in Madrid)
DeleteAll those "El Classico" final and Spanish giants kept apart headlines seem a little silly now.

The FA will re-lay the Wembley pitch again for the final, that new ankle-breaking turf should do the trick.

ReplyDeletesoon then?
DeleteRodgers added on LFC TV: "The punishment is against the man, rather than the incident. We have a punishment with no intention of helping [his] rehabilitation."
ReplyDeletePlonker needs a rudimentary lesson in jurisprudence....
1. These are exemplary punishments intended to police the culture of football.
2. Grown men are supposed to know that biting is wrong.
3.The fuckers lucky not to be prosecuted.
4. Repeat offenders are treated more harshly than first offenders.
5. Suarez is half man half rodent. They train him on a mansize hamster wheel you know. I'm starting to suspect he's the half successful progeny of an island of doctor moreau genetic experiment in the Uruguayan jungle
Luis Suarez is... Capybaraman.
DeleteOddly, the local minor league ice hockey team where I grew up was called the Raleigh Ice Caps. The mascot was a bear named Cappy Bear. I always wondered why he wasn't a capybara, instead. I did ask the front office but they never deigned to respond.
DeleteOn talent, Suarez is a £35-40m player. Liverpool got hm on the cheap (£22m) because he had a reputation as trouble (they must have known about the biting incident at Ajax). So they took a punt (another King Kenny special putting Liverpool's rep on the line). This sort of ban was always possible (and Blogs is right in all he says).
DeleteLiverpool also came up with this stuff about "career ending tackles" blah blah. Newsflash. Tackles are part of football. Biting is not.
Jedi
So desperate have Liverpool become to keep him I wonder what he would have to do to cross their bottom line?
ReplyDeleteAnally rape John Terry in the penalty area?
Even then some scouser would claim "Terry was asking for it."

i watch more football than most, nearly all at youth level. despite belief to the contrary, the academies at pro clubs are nurturing lots of english talent, the game i watched the other week was as exciting as any firsst team match ive seen live for a while (partly because col u first XI are a bit crap). their youth team play in fron of about 40 people and are superb, though.
ReplyDeletethe thing is, what happened to reserve team football? didnt it used to be a proper league in front of paying spectators at the ground? and more to the point why dont we have it now. in the prem a few teams have top class players, mostly english it seems, who are rotting away in obscurity on the bench. are they afraid of the fans thinking nuts to overpriced first team tickets and deserting to the cheaper game? probably. seems a waste of an underused and under-developed resource though (especially from an english national team perspective)
http://blogs.soccernet.com/boltonwanderers/archives/2010/11/the_slow_death_of_reserve_team.php
DeleteWell another comfortable ** cough, cough ** win under the Prat Spanish Waiter last night . Am marking off the matches til he leaves - seriously cannot come soon enough
ReplyDeleteAs for Suarez, think an ate match ban would have been more appropriate
Looks like the Waiter might leave you with a "troffy" (as he likes to call them). As a Spurs fan, I'm kind of hoping this will be at the expense of Champions League qualification.
ReplyDeleteJedi
Youth/reserve football is pretty big at Arsenal Blogidy.
ReplyDeleteOur Next Gen (CL for the kids) game v Spartak Moscow pulled in a crowd of a good few thousand.
It's amazing how creative the courts are now in their penalties.
DeleteJedi, I wish I could be confident that we might end up with a troffy but, as Manuel might say, heeee knows nahthing ...
ReplyDeleteAnd as for Champions League spot he has put me in the very difficult position of actually wanting Manpoo to win on Sunday (I will now have to go home and wash my mouth out with wine)
FA reasoning for Suarez ban.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thefa.com/News/governance/2013/apr/~/media/164A568A93784FE391CC1FDAB4D7313F.ashx
Suarez "previous" was NOT considered in 10-game ban (point number 22)
Point 81 in the Suarez reasons comes straight from the 'We'll be as selective as we like' school of thought.
FA written reasons (No58) cite the fact that the Suarez incident trended worldwide (they use italics to stress it) on Twitter.
Hmmmm, less impressed with this line of reasoning. Surely the fact that he is a repeat offender (and for biting at that) should affect the length of the ban - it does for other types of foul play. And banning someone because of "trending" on twatter is both crap and open to abuse - think how many L'pool (or other big club) fans are on twatter - they could start a trend to have anyone's ban lengthened.
DeleteNot impressed at all with this as it seems to be PR spin as opposed to reasoned argument.
remember Millers

ReplyDeleteGreetings from Colombo.
ReplyDeleteIf you plan to visit, don't.
If you must, bring lots of cash, the place is fucking expensive like you wouldn't believe.
And one more thing...
ReplyDeleteWhy CANT we have a bloke from the FA/UEFA/FIFA sitting on the side lines watching the game on telly and pointing it out to the refs if they miss summat or make a mistake?
Wouldnt slow the game down one bit.
Its all Ivanovic's fault, really.
ReplyDeleteHad he been black, Suarez wouldnt have touched him with a barge pole.
Yeah, and Congratulations ManU.
ReplyDeleteOthers need some catching up to do.
Who needs suarez when you have hendo and downing. Seriously though, that Coutinho lad is pretty darn good.
ReplyDeleteA Newcastle supporting colleague of mine predicted this might happen to them barcodes the day Pardew got the 8 year contract. Personally though, I think what happened to them was teh Europa league. You cannot play the EL with a view to winning it and the PL, unless you have a squad with the depth of a City or Chelsea. Gonna be fun watching the Toffees next year.
141st
ReplyDeleteLast year this time who would've thought 'Arry would be managing in the Championship in 2013?
ReplyDeleteChelsea v Swansea (1500 BST)
ReplyDeleteA bit of a footnote to Chelsea's season is that should they win the Europa League, they will gain an extra place for English clubs presuming they qualify for Europe through their own league position.
-------------------------------------------
Oh bloody fuck...does that mean 6th place gets a Europa spot ? Go Basel!
Given up on catching Everton?
DeleteI hope we dont now. If we beat them to 6th and if that means Europa for us, I'd rather they finished above us.
Deletewhy, so you can concentrate on the league next season and qualify for the Europa?
DeleteSo that we dont do a Newcastle.
Deletejust don't recruit the French reservists or give your manager an 8 year deal, it'll be fine. Mind you, you do need a centre half and a plan for life after Stevie.
DeleteThere is no such thing as life after Stevie.
DeleteI watched two matches last night... Reading v QPR and Arsenl v un**ed and have to say they both bored the shit out of me. There was more skill displayed and less errors made in the former.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I admire Wenger I sometimes have to query the reasoning behind his substitutions. He takes off Rosicky (Arsenal's best midfielder up to that stage) and leaves Ramsey on????? Ramsey was worse than having a man short (we would not have given the ball away as often.) Ramsey was finally replaced with about 8 minutes remaining.
I have a better insight as to why Giroud gets so many games as Arsenl's spearhead now... his only competition is Podolski, a carthorse amongst thoroughbreds. When will we get some scouts that can recognise talent.
Still think you have the advantage over Spurs for 4th place. Spurs have to beat Chelsea (who themselves are also playing Man U same week, so very interesting) while Arsenal have to play Wigan,QPR and Newcastle. It was important for you lot not to have lost yesterday and you managed it.
Deletewhats happened to Roberts twitter??
ReplyDeleteSafe.
ReplyDeleteAmazing to think that we've been battling relegation all season whereas the Boro have been there or there abouts for the play off places and we're now above them.A remarkable league the Championship this season.
yes indeed, very closely packed together in the Championship with just 27 points separating second and second bottom (45pts in the prem) allowed for some fast movement when teams get on a run.
ReplyDeleteSee you in the championship next year, jacks
ReplyDeleteWe might not be there,in either direction Blogidy.
DeleteSuch are the delights of the Championship.
In other news,Arsenal full back Bacary Sagna has announced he's expecting a baby boy.
Going to call him Les.
They found out those godolphin horses were doped when one of them won the tour de france
ReplyDeleteThey must have doped to make horses go like dolphins. I knew those burgers tasted funny.
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing is bit fishy.

Bo.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how many Arsenal games you have seen lately, but a couple of points:
Podolski is well off the pace, has been for thelast few monthes, he's been carrying an ankle injury which he will have surgery on over the summer, why the hell he was expected to lead the line was beyond me, baffling decision.
I don't get this Ramsey bashng, it's not just you, but for some reason he's the scapegoat for all things wrong at the moment, which to me seems extreamly unfair. If there's one player in our current team that always gives 100% and never hides, it's him. If you thought we looked short, then maybe it was because Feo did one of his amazing disapearing acts again, Theo Walk it, hardly broke a sweat until he thought he was getting pulled for OXlade-Chamberpot. Yeah he got the goal, but was missing for the rest of the game.
I'll agree that the gameon the whole lacked the quality that you would expect from a fixture between those two clubs, but to claim it wasn't as goodas the Reading QPR debacle seems a little far fetched to me, even the highlights of that game were dire. This was supposed to be the last chance saloon for these two teams, but it was a lifeless limp stroll in the park that looked like neither could give a fuck about, truly awful. I hope QPR are as shit as that when we have to play them next week.
I was surprised by Arsenal yesterday. I've not seen them that up for a game in quite a while. Ref was bloody useless though.
DeleteI have been guilty of Ramsey bashing meself in the past H, but I have to say that he has been doing pretty well lately, took a while for Wenger to realize that Ramsey is like Flamini, his real strength is not his passing or vision, its harrassing opponents and trying to win the ball back, which he has done very well lately,
ReplyDeleteI do have agree with Bo on the Rosicky substitution, he is the most creative player we have left and he can run with the ball better than any midfielder in the PL, which is something the opposition hates, but Wenger does not trust his legs to last beyond an hour. I think he is being over protective as he was not showing any signs of tiredness. Even though we wanted to win the match, Wenger shoulda taken off one of the useless forwards for Wilshere.

Jacks, thanks for the link
ReplyDeleteYes I was unsure about Evans, with his baggage, but then what do I know
Went to the NY stadium once at Xmas and I was impressed, talked to a few officials, who talked of future plans, then there was a dip in form, stupid losses when it should have been sewn up long ago, in the end dont know how we finshed above Vale
Maybe next season I'll get there a few more times when I retire this summer
H, I said at the beginning of the season, that much as I liked Poldo, when he was at FCB and Koln, I think he was prone to injury and would struggle, Giroud and Cazorla started off brightly but generally should have done better, Injuries to Arteta and Wilshere were damaging and the other potential big names didnt always play to their game. Rosicksky starting to play well but get rid of Ramsey.
ReplyDeleteStill 3 games to go
Phil Brown, the David Brent of football strikes again, he invited Jeremy Kyle to give the team talk to Southend United (they lost)
ReplyDeleteTone, you overtook us for the simple reason that tom pope stopped scoring about 10 games ago.
ReplyDeleteFor want of anything better to do at work, I just played the BBC Prem League Predictor game, and I have Villa being relegated and Chelsea and Arsenal bagging 3rd and 4th spot respectively.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually good news for Spurs and Villa, as I'm never ever right.
GOAL - Aston Villa 6-1 Sunderland - Gabriel Agbonlahor (88 mins)

See what I mean. It's a talent that never lets me down.
First you sell us Torres, then we get sloppy seconds with R*f* as manager and now this AH - I mean how spiteful can you be :)
DeleteI tried to reply to your comment H2 but couldn't get it to work.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen many games this season... lack of Internet access and Arsenal games not being covered by local cable.
For me the Arsenal match was no better than the reading v qpr game (less mistakes by both teams in the latter match.) You are correct, the Reading game was dire but so was the arsenal game. Arsenal lacked the commitment and intensity you would have expected from a team fighting for a top four spot and Un**ed played like the team that just won the championship and wanted the season finished.
I agree with you about Walcott, apart from the goal he did fuck all...but at least he scored the goal. I am bashing Ramsey because he played worse than shit. Almost every time he got the ball he gave it away. I was hoping he would be red carded (although I don't think he plays with enough passion to ever do anything to be sent off,) at least then we may have retained the ball more. I honestly felt Ramsey was the worse player on the pitch and when Wenger removed rosicky, who I felt was our best midfielder to that point, I again had to doubt Wenger's reasoning.
Jason Collins comes out. One 'major' sport down, how many more to go?

You'll welcome the news then Bo that he seems to be on his way to psg this summer. Joachim Low favourite to take over
ReplyDeleteif you're referring to the Telegraph then Ancelotti to Real Madrid ... that means Mourinho's out.
DeleteSince Rafa's is certainly out, Mourinho back to Chelsea?
Tra la la lala.
ReplyDeleteWho is the jammy bugger that had Benteke as his FFL captain this week.
Tra la la la la
I wouldn't go as far as to say I welcome the news blog but I do think Wenger has done as much as he can with the club and maybe it is time to move on. I wont mind if he stays though.
ReplyDeleteLe French have had their day in le sun, ze Germans now seem to be ze flavour of ze month so Low taking over would seem appropriate. It will make a change seeing what German rubbish the scouts can find as opposed to French rubbish.
