We need a CB though, with King possibly retiring, Gallas way past it, and Dawson preferring the physio's table to the pitch. Kaboul was, for me, our most improved player last season, so a strong partner for him, and a striker must be our priorities this summer.Noelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15383036164786128543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2272939963457395740.post-78315439699481171392012-06-04T13:16:08.622+01:002012-06-04T13:16:08.622+01:00When Arsenal anounced a few seasons ago that they ...When Arsenal anounced a few seasons ago that they were signing a Belgian CB from Ajax, most thought it would be Vertongen and not Vermaelen as the former was always rated higher.

He was the Ere Divisie player of the year this season. An accolade not often won by a defender.

He can play as a full back, a centre back or as a defencive midfielder and is very comfortable on the ball.

His down side is that he is (well used to be) guilty of the odd lapse in concentration and due to his forward thinking tendencies can be caught out of position.

The Amsterdam based media can´t understand why he´d want to leave Ajax, who he captains and are in the CL for a club like Spurs who are not.

Reliable sources from out the ArenA claim that his prefered destination would be the other end of the Seven Sisters Rd, but as of yet there has been no other interest from other PL clubs.

Spurs know this and are stalling on making the deal, quibling over a million euros or so, this has upset the Vertongen camp and may even scupper the transfer.Holloway2Hollandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10009190036045297758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2272939963457395740.post-60764800516042837422012-06-04T12:18:04.699+01:002012-06-04T12:18:04.699+01:00I don't think Kelly will get any game time any...I don't think Kelly will get any game time anyway, so I'd rather he went as he's a youngster with a possible international future, so he'll gain some experience. Jagielka replaced Barry, so he can cover at CB, and hopefully will play alongside Lescott and Terry doesn't get near the pitch. Henderson won't see any game time either, so it may be a useful learning experience for him too. I also heard the rumours about Spearing when Barry got injured, and also Shelvey when Lampard was ruled out. Load of bollocks. Two absolutely useless players. At least they'd fit in with all the other Nazi skinheads that will be in attendance throughout the tournament.

H, and any other bloggers who have watched a bit of the Eredevisie, what's this Jan Vertonghen like that Spurs are interested in? Seems to me he's a little too keen to prove that his Liverpool failure was not due to him.

Dammit, you won't find a more ardent Liverpool supporter than me, bit Downing, Henderson and Kelly in the England first team is just not right. I can even see some justification for GJ and Carroll, but those 3 shouldnt be in the starting 11 for England.
